Police chiefs, fire chiefs and even Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs gathered near State Farm Stadium to talk about the public safety preps underway.

“All eyes will be on Arizona this weekend around the men’s Final Four tournament,” said Jay Parry, the CEO of the Phoenix Local Organizing Committee.

They tell 12News the goal is to create a fun and safe environment for the roughly 80,000 fans expected to attend the festivities.

“We also want to make sure we’re creating an economic impact for the tourism industry for our restaurants or bar owners, and then also looking at economic development on a long-term basis, because we want companies to continue to move to Arizona,” said Parry.

Leading up to the games, which start Saturday, there will be a fan fest and music fest in downtown Phoenix. There will also be an NCAA basketball All-Star game.
