CASA GRANDE — One area road project was given the green light by the State Transportation Board, while another will have to wait.
During the board’s March 15 meeting, the board accepted the bid for $2.2 million from Cactus Transport II Inc. for about 8-miles of milling, chip sealing and micro-surfacing on U.S. Highway 191 near the U.S. Highway 70 interchange east of Safford. The work also includes spot repairs and pavement markings.
However, the board rejected the low bid from Meridian Engineering Co. to construct a new bridge and bridge approaches, plus re-align Frisco Avenue in Clifton.
The board rejected the bid because it came in 71 percent over the project estimate of $1.3 million. Meridian was the only bidder on the project.
The next meeting of the Transportation Board will take place April 19 in Buckeye. Safford will host a board meeting Aug. 16.
