Sedona to Host Household Electronics and Paper Shred Event

The city of Sedona will host a free limited household electronics collection and paper shred event on Saturday, April 27, 2024, from 8 a.m. to noon, at the West Sedona School parking lot 570 Posse Ground Rd., near the Sedona Community Pool.

Household electronics and small battery waste will be collected by our partners Westech Recyclers and Veolia. In addition, Assured Document Destruction will have an on-site paper shredding truck.

Disposing of electronics and batteries in landfills contaminates drinking water and can kill wildlife

Throwing out electronics can waste billions of dollars in recoverable materials such as gold, silver, coltan, copper, palladium, platinum, and other valuable metals. Paper documents can be recycled into new products, reducing the need to cut down forests for paper production. Proper disposal is important for protecting the health of humans and our environment.

Waste that will be accepted for the event includes:

• Small household batteries including AA, AAA, C, D, 9 volt, and button batteries
• CDs/DVDs,
• Credit card machines
• Cathode ray tube (CRT)/tube TVs (a limited number of CRTs will be collected; first come first serve)
• Desktop and laptop computers
• Flatscreen TVs
• Radios
• Vacuums
• Microwaves
• Other small household appliances
• Office electronics
• Power cables and cords
• Power tools
• VHS/DVD players
• Paper documents (limited to four boxes of paper per vehicle)

Waste that will not be accepted includes:

• Commercial business waste
• Large appliances or items containing freon such as refrigerators
• Large batteries such as car batteries
• Medical waste
• Household hazardous waste
• Cardboard
• Plastic, such as credit cards
• Three-ring binders

Prescription drugs will not be accepted at the event. Prescription drugs in pill form only can be taken to the Sedona Police Department at City Hall and deposited in the prescription drop box; anyone can do this year-round, and residency is not required.
