Four wrestlers from Yuma County schools competed at the USA Wrestling Folkstyle Nationals in Cedar Falls, Iowa this past weekend, with all four placing and earning All-American Status.
Yuma Catholic siblings Khel and Khyla Lipumano, along with fellow Shamrock Trenton Blomquist made the trip, as did Gila Ridge’s Kennedy Farrar.
Khyla, a sophomore for YC, competed in the 16U Girls 100-pound tournament, ultimately falling in the final to Katie Biscoglia out of Iowa by decision 7-2. This gave her a second place finish. She pinned Anna White of North Dakota in her first match to advance to the semifinals, where she defeated Ella Kavanaugh of Nevada.
Khyla won her first state title back in February at the AIA State Wrestling Championships in Phoenix in the Girls Division II 100-pound final, defeating fellow Yuma competitor Divina Diaz Rios out of Yuma High. She wrestled to a 46-2 record.
Her brother, senior Khel Lipumano, finished sixth in the Junior Boys 113-pound competition. He won he second state title on the same day as his sister, winning the Division IV 113-pound title. He wrestled to a 55-3.
The final Shamrock in attendance was Blomquist, a senior and two-time Division IV state champ at 175 pounds in 2023 and 190 pounds in 2024. In Iowa, he wrestled to a fourth place finish, falling in the third-place match to Noah Weaver of Indiana. In Arizona HS competition as a senior, Blomquist went 54-0.
Representing Arizona and Gila Ridge High School was junior Kennedy Farrar, who competed in the Junior Girls 100-pound competition. Farrar advanced all the way to the final against Kendall Moe of Indiana, but lost via pinfall. Farrar wrestled to her first Arizona state title in Phoenix this season, winning the Girls Division I 100-pound title.
With their respective finishes, all four wrestlers were named USA Wrestling All-Americans.
