TUCSON, Ariz. (KVOA) – For the second straight night, Arizona Baseball walked off UCLA.
The Wildcats beat the Bruins 3-2 to secure their first series win over UCLA since 2018. It also marked the 3,000th win in program history. Arizona is just the 10th school in NCAA history to reach the 3,000-win milestone.
Right fielder Emilio Corona delivered the win on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth inning. With the bases loaded he lifted a ball into center field, sending Brendan Summerhill sprinting home. Summerhill took down the Bruins in game one Thursday with a two-run home run in the 10th inning.
Starting pitcher Clark Candiotti was dealing on the mound. He pitched a complete-game, giving up two runs (one earned) on four hits, striking out a career high 12 batters.
Arizona got on the board in the third inning. Richie Morales scored Emilio Corona on a groundout. Morales had another RBI groundout in the fifth to bring Arizona’s lead to two.
UCLA made things interesting by scoring a run in the eighth and an unearned run in the ninth to tie the game. However, Corona secured the walk-off win.
The Wildcats go for the series sweep over the Bruins Saturday at 1 p.m. at Hi Corbett Field.
