It was an offensive explosion for the Arizona Diamondbacks at Chase Field Thursday.

PHOENIX — Fans who attended Opening Day at Chase Field Thursday night saw a record-breaking performance by the Arizona Diamondbacks.

During the third inning against the Colorado Rockies, the D-backs bats awoke and put on an offensive display. The inning lasted 44 minutes and the D-backs saw 59 pitches during the bottom half of the inning.

But that is only the beginning.

Arizona scored 14 runs on 13 hits, sending 18 hitters to the plate. The run total was a franchise record. According to the D-backs broadcast, the offensive explosion is a modern-era record and scoring more than 12 runs in an inning on Opening Day hasn’t been done since 1925.

Among the batting barrage was the first major league hit for rookie shortstop Blaze Alexander. A nice moment as his family was in the stands to witness the accomplishment.

Not a bad way to kick off the season. Let’s see if the offense can continue their hot hitting for the next 161 games.

As of this writing, the D-backs had the game well in hand with a 16-1 lead over Colorado in the sixth inning. Colorado would be unable to score for the rest of the game with the final score staying at 16-1.
