Yuma Catholic baseball swept Kingman on Friday at home, grabbing two run-rule wins by scores of 13-0 and 10-0.
The Shamrocks started out slow in the first three innings of game one compared to their pace later in the contest, scoring one in the first and second innings and two in the third.
Yuma Catholic would go on to pile on an eye-popping nine runs in the fourth, capitalizing on a slew of errors by the Bulldogs. Kingman had a total of six errors in the first game. Out of the 10 runs allowed by Bulldogs’ junior starter Albert Lopez, only two of those were earned.
Shamrocks’ sophomore starter Hiram Silva only surrendered one hit in his five-inning outing, striking out seven and walking none.
Junior outfielder Mickey Fox led the Rocks with a 2-for-2 performance at the plate, reaching on a hit-by-pitch as well.
The Shamrocks kept up the rapid pace in game two, scoring two runs in the first, three in the second, one in the third and four in the fourth. YC won with 10 runs on six hits, as Kingman committed three more errors to bring their day total to nine.
Fox was once again perfect at the plate, going 2-for-2 with a walk and three RBIs via a pair of triples.
Junior Ivan Guzman took the mound in game two, allowing one hit across five innings of work, walking one and striking out eight.
Silva and junior Joey Carey recorded two hits each across the doubleheader.
YC is at Tonopah Valley on Monday.
Cibola softball beat West Point by 10 on Friday afternoon on the road, defeating the Dragons 15-5.
The Raiders scored one in the first and three in the second before exploding for a seven-run third inning. The Dragons answered with their only runs of the day in a five-run bottom of the third off of Cibola sophomore Alessandra Martinez. The left-hander got one out in the third before being relieved by junior Aliana Padilla, who was lights out for the rest of the game.
Padilla threw four and two-third no-hit innings, walking one and striking out three with great work from the defense behind her.
Senior Alana McDonnell, Padilla and freshman Jizelle Robles led the Raiders each with three hit games. Sophomore Cameron Kasid drove in three runs on two hits. Five Raiders had multiple runs batted in.
Cibola visits Boulder Creek on Monday.
