PHOENIX — Phoenix police are investigating two deadly crashes involving pedestrians late Thursday night and into Friday morning.

Emergency crews were called to the first crash scene near 51st Avenue and McDowell Road around 9:30 p.m. Thursday.

A pedestrian, only identified at this time as a woman, was hit by a car and pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials say the woman was walking across McDowell Road when she was hit by a car. The driver of the car showed no signs of intoxication.

Hours later, around 3 a.m. Friday, a woman, identified as 21-year-old Jaylynn James, was reportedly hit and killed near 35th Avenue and Baseline Road.

Police originally said the pedestrian was a man, but has since clarified that the pedestrian was a woman.

Officials say James was crossing Baseline Road outside of all marked crosswalks when she was hit by a car. That driver also showed no signs of impairment.

Both crashes remain under investigation.
