UA guards stepped up in NCAA Tournament to lead Wildcats past The Beach
SALT LAKE CITY — Tommy Lloyd likes to say, “Let it rip” and that’s what his No. 9 Arizona Wildcats did Thursday to open the NCAA Tournament.
The Wildcats knocked down 13-of-34 three points shots on their way to a 85-65 win over Long Beach State in a West Regional game at the Delta Center.
UA’s starting guards carried the load as Kylan Boswell (20), Caleb Love (18) and Pella Larsson (15) combined for 53 points on 10 three-point makes. The trio added 18 assists to just two turnovers. Love grabbed 11 rebounds.
The Wildcats (26-8) advance to face either Nevada or Dayton in the 2nd round on Saturday.
Oumar Ballo recorded his 18th double-doubled, finishing with 11 points and 13 rebounds. Keshad Johnson added 13 points.
Aboubacar Traore and Amari Stroud led the Beach (21-15) with 14 points apiece as head coach Dan Monson’s career at Long Beach comes to an end.
