The former heavyweight champ was training with Maynard James Keenan at his martial arts center in Arizona ahead of this summer’s fight.

COTTONWOOD, Ariz. — From his boxing exploits to his acting appearances, boxer Mike Tyson has been a mainstay in the pop culture zeitgeist for decades.

And now he’s back in the news as he recently announced his return to the ring. A return that has brought the former heavyweight champion back to Arizona.

Welcome back to the Grand Canyon State, Mike!

The legendary boxer is in Cottonwood training at Maynard James Kennan’s Brazilian jiu-jitsu gym, Verde Valley BJJ. Kennan, the singer for bands “Tool” and “A Perfect Circle,” posted a photo on Instagram of himself, Tyson and his wife, Lei Li Keenan, at the gym Saturday.

Tyson, 57, is coming out of retirement for the upcoming fight with former Youtuber Jake Paul, 27. The match is set for July 20 in Arlington, Texas and will be streamed live.

The last time Tyson boxed professionally was in 2005 and he was most recently in the ring in 2020 for an exhibition draw with Roy Jones Jr, according to the Bleacher Report.

Paul made his professional boxing debut in 2020 and has a career record of 9-1, according to the Bleacher Report.
