Various Yuma County schools were in action on Monday, as Antelope took on opponents in baseball, softball and tennis, while Kofa faced off with Buckeye in baseball and softball.
Rams drop both in doubleheader
Antelope baseball dropped both games against the Broncs of Parker at home on Monday, losing the opener 13-2 and the second game 8-2.
Senior Able Nunez and sophomore Erwin Rodriguez each took a loss from the mound in the respective games.
The Rams were held to just four runs total on Monday, struggling to hit at the plate while making some costly mistakes on defense.
Antelope hosts Anthem Prep on Thursday at 4 p.m.
The Rams softball team won both games against Parker on Monday, winning 14-12 and 18-8.
Sophomore pitcher Isela Marquez pitched all but one inning through both games on Monday. In game one, she surrendered eight earned runs on 13 hits with two walks and a trio of strikeouts.
Senior Joanna Magallon took over for the start in game two, but surrendered five earned runs through nine batters faced in her only inning of work. Marquez stepped in, allowing three earned runs on one hit, four walks and a strikeout in the final four innings before the Rams run-ruled the Broncs.
It was a much more positive day in the box for the Rams. Senior Matilde Zazueta was. 4-for-4 with two RBIs and junior Katie Willams was 2-for-4 with a quartet of RBIs and two stolen bases.
Marquez went 3-for-3 in the second game with a trio of RBIs. Senior Yvonne Mesa was 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
Antelope visits Yuma High on Wednesday.
The Kings took down Buckeye at home 7-6 in a game with a 6 p.m. start, finishing under the lights at Kofa, with the Kings winning in nine innings.
Junior Jazymn Martinez led the Kings with a 3-for-5 day at the plate, including a triple. Freshman Emma Martinez had two RBIs in the win.
Junior Charlize Anaya threw nine complete innings in the circle, allowing three earned runs on seven hits with one walk and eight strikeouts. The Kings committed four errors, just half of the Hawks’ eight.
Kofa tied the game in the fourth with a three-run frame. They scored one more in the fifth, two in the seventh to send it to extras, and then the walk-off run to win it in the ninth.
The Kings visit the Buckeyes on Wednesday.
Rams split day with Eagles
Antelope tennis visited Scottsdale Christian on Monday, with the girls winning 5-4 and boys losing by the same score.
In the girls match, Scottsdale Christian took the first three wins. Junior No. 4 Leisly Flores and No. 5 Mckenzie Praeger dominated their matches, and tied things up in singles play with a forfiet by the Eagles
The pairing of sophomore No. 6 Madison Barraza and freshman No. 2 Mariet Correa got a clutch win in doubles, winning 8-2. With another forfeit by Scottsdale Christian, Antelope took the win.
The boys lost 5-4, with only freshman No. 4 Kameron Beltran winning a singles match. The other three wins came via forfeit. Senior No. 1 Jose Calleros lost via tiebreaker.
Antelope’s Boys Tennis team lost in a close game, 4-5, ending with a tie breaker from Jose Calleros to determine the game. Kameron Beltran came off the court successful winning his singles match 6-0, 6-3.
Both the Antelope boys and girls visit ALA – West Foothills on Thursday.
