Man in custody after shooting involving officers in Peoria staff

PEORIA, AZ — A man has been taken to a hospital after a shooting involving Peoria police Friday morning.

The incident happened at a home near 75th Avenue and Thunderbird Road around 9 a.m.

Police say officers were responding to check the welfare of a 43-year-old man at the home when they discovered that he was armed. The man then pointed a “long gun” at officers.

Officers fired at the armed man, who then retreated into the home and barricaded himself inside.

Officials say the man was shot by officers and was ultimately taken to a hospital with minor injuries.

No officers were hurt during this incident.

Video from the scene late Friday morning showed a large continued police presence in the neighborhood.

Just before 1:30 p.m., police said the man had been taken into custody and evacuations in place in the area had been lifted.

Police say the man will be booked on several charges including aggravated assault after being released from the hospital. staff
