Happy New Year, Fans of Chino Valley!  The Holiday season was a blast for us at the Chino Valley Area Chamber of Commerce and Visitor’s Information Center.

East Side winner of ‘Light Up Highway 89 Contest’: Mary’s Cozy Home Furnishings

Ten businesses received votes during our ‘Light Up Highway 89 Contest’ by our esteemed panel of judges consisting of Mayor Jack Miller, Town Councilwoman Annie Perkins, Tom Payne of Tom’s Print and Sign, Chino Valley Schools Superintendent John Scholl, and Chamber Board member Lee Nelson.

The winners of the West Side businesses was the Aroma Pizza/Crown Tattoo building and each of them received a $125 gift card courtesy of A2Z Home Center.

The East Side winner was Mary’s Cozy Home Furnishings and Mary & Doug received a $250 Gift Card, courtesy of Ace Hardware. Mary’s also won the ”Griswold Award” as the overall best lit business. Congratulations to all, and that Griswold Award will be up for grabs in the 2024 Holiday Season, as well.

Our ‘Holiday Shopping Bingo Contest’ sponsored by Tom’s Print and Sign, APS, and the Chino Valley Review, was a hit as a few dozen qualifying cards were returned to the Chamber office

Lottie Roll (who had a card blackout) earned a $75 gift card courtesy of Sew and Sew, along with $25.00 cash for making a purchase. Lee Nelson (our other card blackout player) along with Kayla Kaufman each earned a $75.00 gift card courtesy of Olsen’s for Healthy Animals with the cash award for producing a purchase receipt. Ann Petersen earned a $80.00 gift card courtesy of SteamSesh Salon, and $25.00 cash and Kimberly Altman won a $75.00 gift card courtesy of El Paraiso.

Personally, I am enthused, as all the participants wanted to earn a gift card from one of the participating businesses and not “Amazon”!

This January, look for our first Brown Bag Lunch & Learn with the Central Yavapai Metropolitan Planning Organization as our presenter at the Days Inn at 11:00 am on Tuesday, January 16. Remember, first timers to our Lunch & Learn get a 2 minute ‘soap box’ to tell us about your business, and all attendees are welcome to bring a flyer to promote what is new and exciting in your place of business.

I am going to close with a list of New Year’s Resolutions for Businesspersons:

1) I resolve to stop complaining about the economy. 2) I will take time off. 3) I will join a new business or networking group. 4) I will learn how to delegate; and then do more of it. 5) I will invest in me and learn something new. 6) I will enhance my social media footprint. 7) I will work toward a work-life balance of Family, Faith, and Fortune. 8) I will Ask for, listen to, and embrace feedback. 9) I will meet with customers, vendors, and colleagues face to face. 10) I will be proud to be a small business owner.

Happy New Year, all and if you want to provide feedback (#8), please drop me a note at [email protected], or call us at (928)636-2493. Thanks!
