A pedestrian was struck by a car near Mountain America Stadium during halftime of the Arizona State University vs. Southern Utah University football game on Thursday night, according to the Tempe Police Department.

Police said the preliminary investigation indicated that at 9:04 p.m., a car left a private drive at Marina Heights and Rio Salado Parkway and failed to yield for a red light when making a left turn. That resulted in the car striking a pedestrian who was walking in a crosswalk, according to Tempe Officer Kayla Gneck-Smith.

The pedestrian was then taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition, police said.

Impairment was not a contributing factor in the collision, according to police.

The victim’s name had not yet been released, police said.
