September is Founders’ Month in Queen Creek when the town celebrates its history.

Queen Creek was incorporated on Sept. 5, 1989, by the “Queen Creek Five,” stated a post on the town’s Facebook site.

The Queen Creek Five are known as the town’s “Founding Fathers.” They are Robert Eberle, Paul Gardner, Ralph Pomeroy, Mark Schnepf and Steve Sossaman, the post stated. Schnepf, the owner of Schnepf Farms, was Queen Creek’s first mayor. Steve Sossaman, owner of Sossaman Farms, was the town’s second mayor.

To learn more about their efforts to create the town of Queen Creek, residents can visit the plaque at the Picket Post Square on the northwest corner of Ellsworth and Ocotillo roads.

From 5 to 9 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 16, the town will be holding its annual Founders’ Day event at Founders’ Park, 22407 S. Ellsworth Road.
