Escudilla National Recreation Trail, Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest, Nutrioso

Topping out at just under 10,900-feet of elevation, Escudilla Mountain Trail is Arizona’s third highest path– only the Humphreys Peak trail in Flagstaff and the Mount Baldy tail near Greer are higher. The moderate-rated path ascends easily through aspen glens and the territory of the Mexican gray wolf. Elusive and fleet-of-foot, spotting one along White Mountain trails is an extremely rare occurrence. Still, the fact that they are “out there” adds to the allure of the area.
